Bathroom Progress

During my blogging break I went ahead and wallpapered my small bathroom. It was basically a white (actually more like builders beige) box and I decided that since it was small I wanted to do something fun with it. My debate was fun (with colour) vs. simple/hotel like...I went for fun. And since it was a small space I only needed one roll of wall paper which cost $36 (which isn't expensive but isn't the cheapest out there).

Before:

After (I literally had to stand in my tub to take these!):

Fun right? I know. But as much as I like it I'm now thinking of painting it. It's just not quite working for me and I don't know what exactly it is that's not working. I don't think it's the wallpaper per say - but more or less the whole thing together (oh, this is the curtain I have up-a see throughish white one-...not the colourful one). It just kinda feels not quite finished...which is funny because it's really not finished and I know that. I need a new bath mat, and some kinda art/photograph on the wall....and I have to buy proper hand towels. I find myself reconsidering my original inspiration board for the bathroom:

So, now I'm thinking of painting it either a light gray, white white, or black.

What do you think? Leave it, get the finishing touches, and make it work. Or go with my original inspiration board?

The wallpaper is very fun! Its completely unexpected and looks great. But if you aren't feeling it, then you aren't feeling it. You have a natural instinct with decorating. The black, gray, white, bright pink color theme is a recurring one in your living space. It might tie it in to the rest of the apartment. Whatever you chose to do, I am sure the result will be fabulous!

Oh- I LOVE it. I say leave it for a while, live with i,t and see if you're opinion changes. You could bring some other accent colors in (I'm thinking a very soft aqua or a pale pale pink) through accessories that might help you fall in love.

Keep the wallpaper and try to make it work before you paint it. I love it!

Wow - go you for wallpapering that space! It looks very polished.

Before you scrap it - why don't you try pulling in some more gray elements (to pick up on the gray accents). The pattern on the paper makes a great statement in an art deco bathroom. I just think it needs a little toning down and modernizing to make it work.

PS: You realy should hug your landlord for letting you wallpaper. I would never allow that.

I like it!
Get the finishing touches and see what you think.

ooh, I totally agree with Mrs. Limestone on pulling in some grey accents (like those hand towels you're wanting!). I think it would look fabulous and very modern against the wallpaper. Then if you decide you still don't like the wallpaper, you can still use them in your new design.

Personally I think it looks really chic. I don't think painting it grey would have the same impact. The wallpaper totally takes it to another level.

Love it! I think black, white and yellow work great together, so you can stick with what you have *and* incorporate your originally planned elements. I feel like the yellow paper is something nobody else will have.

This is an amazing transformation! I would look for some finishing touches and live with it for a while before changing it (just because I love it so much). Give it a chance!

umm, LOVE this!! I say leave the wallpaper and paint the ceiling a high gloss inky blue. So hot!! I'm jealous I want that in my bathroom!

OMG I LOVE that wallpaper. The color and pattern is awesome. And I love that shower curtain too, so different! Is it plastic or fabric?

I can't get over how Apartment Therapy/Domino Mag/Real Simple feature worthy it looks!

You're so brave with color. I'm not wallpapering or painting anything, because I don't own and I don't want to have to change it when I move.

Maybe I can find a less-permanent way to impart color.

I keep coming back to look at this wallpaper- I am so in love with it.

I still say paint the ceiling- it would rock!

Wow! I really thought the consensus would be to get rid of it! Thanks to all of your comments/suggestions I've done some minor changes in the bathroom and the wallpaper is now a keeper. New post with pics coming tomorrow :)

@Mrs Limestone - I didn't ask before I put it up. It peels off and I tested it - so it should be okay :)

@Jason - YOUR bathroom was partly convincing me to remove the wall paper and I paint. I LOVE yours - so chic!

@Katelin - of course! the next time I'm in California :P

@Bayjb - it's plastic but kind of looks like fabric (from far). the lacey print on it is white so it gives the appearance it's just white lace. it cost $12 at Kmart and reminds me of the one I REALLY want...that costs like 10x as much.

@ceecee- omg what a huge compliment! thank you

@T - i have a whole post on temporary colour...stay tuned :)

@LindsB - i'm brave with colour but that scares even ME! lol
